Reducing waste in the Community

Eco Solutions provides information & support to the local community. The services offered are similar to that of the education

& events programmes.

Annually we have contact with and make presentations to key community groups throughout the Northland region.

Community groups may also use our resources as required. Seminars are promoted to the relevant community groups.

Eco Solutions maintain regular contact with these groups to ensure current services and information is provided.

Presentations
As a part of the community programme presentations topics which we have covered are;

• Waste minimisation/resource conservation
• Organic waste – worm farms, composting, Bokashi
• Water conservation
• Waste audits
• Climate Change (to be completed)

Each presentation comes with a display of information, products and services. Community presentations are also a

valuable tool to convey information about local services (council & contractors).

Waste Minimisation System Set-up
This service provides information on how to reduce waste and set up a system at home or in any community situation.

Information is provided on what can be recycled, composted or worm-farmed. Information is also provided on how to shop

carefully to reduce the waste we generate.

Signage
The community programme offers signage or display information to help reduce waste at home or in the community. This includes:

• Posters
• Handouts

Seminars
Seminars are held annually to provide information on or promote certain topics to the community or sector groups e.g.:

• Caretaker seminars
• Nappy seminars
• Sustainable business practices
• Worm farms/composting

Seminar topics will vary and depend on current themes in the media, local issues etc.

Public Events
Eco Solutions provides information and support to organizers of events in the Northland region. We can offer display material,

coordinate and provide waste recovery services, signage and liaison services.

*Costs incurred for this service charged to local authority or event organisers as applicable.

The aim of this service is to reduce the amount of waste created and disposed of at a public event and to encourage event organisers

to plan for this from the beginning. This service is also designed to create an expectation in the public – that every public event

provides them with the opportunity to recycle and reduce waste. We can also provide a report on the event’s recycling and

waste outcomes and make recommendations to reduce the next events waste even further.

Displays
In the past our waste minimisation displays at public events have attracted large numbers of the public interested in reducing their waste.

The display information that we hold includes:

• Organic waste - alternatives to land filling

- Worm farms
- Composting
- Bokashi - effective micro-organisms (E.M)

• Waste audits
• Washable nappies
• Bin samples
• Signage samples
• Information on Plasback - Agricultural plastics recycling initiative
